Change is inevitable in our lives. It's even a part of our day to day experience. We can't always time change correctly, or even choose the best time it happens to us, cause it sometimes just happens! The beauty in change comes when we realize that it's truly a gift, as it gives us the opportunity to grow. If we are all equally challenged with change then we all equally have the opportunity to grow. Where we all differ is how we choose to deal with that opportunity. Change one of those things in life that is indisputable, similar to death and taxes. We can choose to complain about the inevitable or adapt and adjust.
I recently heard a saying that really stuck with me. It helped put change into perspective. That saying was this, "Attitude is Altitude". Your attitude will affect your altitude in life. Take a moment and reflect on that. What does it matter how high one fly’s through this life? Well, looking at it as if we are the pilots of our own lives, flying low(or at a lack of altitude) poses some serious risks. You can crash into buildings, mountains, and or trees. Let's continue with that analogy for a moment and think of the last time you took a commercial flight, you probably cruised at an uneventful 36,000 feet. That's some serious ALTITUDE....wonder why that is? I speculate that it has something to do with the fact that a major risks are then taken out of the equation.......No buildings, mountains, or trees! The airlines even call it cruising!!! Life is very much the same. Your attitude changes your cruising altitude. I know I want my cruising to be at least 36,000+ feet, and that's going to take some serious attitude adjustments. I mean let's face it.....life is tough and troublesome and change just won't quit! Life doesn't always afford us the option to change when we want, so the only change that we really have control over is OUR ATTITUDE! I only want to focus on what I can adjust and run with it. I mean seriously run with it. A positive spin on mundane tasks in life changes one's perspective seriously. Take driving for instance, I love to use my blinker, and I think others should as well, but when I'm kind enough to use my blinker please allow me to merge. If someone doesn't allow me to merge I can negatively
react, or I can shrug it off and not let it affect my attitude or my altitude. That same principle works with people in our lives as well. We all have a "Debbie Downer" in our lives, or maybe you're someone else's "Ms. Downer". If we show others our positive attitude in hopes of gaining altitude, they might grab a hold and improve their altitude as well. Life is going to challenge us and I know that a "positive attitude" isn't always going to be easy or possible, but that's my point. Altitude isn't an instant thing, it's gradual. Same goes for our attitudes. For all those times that a positive attitude is easy, use that to gain your altitude and then just cruise.
